Oklahoma Regional Wing
Dave McClurkin,
Oklahoma Wing Leader
USAF Retired
Dave and his wife Barb have been married for 34 years and have a grown daughter. Barb is a private pilot and recently passed her check ride to add a glider rating to her certificate. It takes a real pilot to fly an aircraft that doesn't have an engine!
Dave began flying in 1974 and was recently awarded the FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot award for 50 years of general aviation flying and support to military aviation operations. He has an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate and Flight Instructor Certificate with airplane single and multi-engine and instrument airplane ratings.
Dave served as a weather officer in the USAF for 21 years, supporting a wide variety of Air Force and Army aviation operations throughout the world. His most memorable assignment was as an Aerial Reconnaissance Weather Officer flying as a crew member in WC-130 "typhoon chaser" aircraft out of Guam. He logged 75 typhoon penetrations during his two-year tour. After retiring from the Air Force in 1996 Dave began a career with the University of Oklahoma School of Aviation. He has served OU as a flight instructor, chief flight instructor and FAA airman certification representative.
Dave bought his Cessna 172 in 1978 and has been flying it for charity airlift organizations since 1998 and for Angel Flight South Central since 2003. You don't need a big or fast airplane to support this worthwhile cause!
